I hardly considered it an attack. If it were an attack, it would be much more fatal. It seems more like kidnapping, which is an entirely different realm of annoying, especially if this happens to be separated from the place I came from, which I suppose it must be. Creatures like this don't exist on the normal plane of reality.

Everyone meets her, apparently. I have my suspicions that she's some sort of construct, though I don't know how that could be the case given that magic of any sort doesn't work here.

And no, nobody has any idea. There's a rumor going around that if you defeat the eight Gym Leaders and challenge the Elite Four you can go home, so they might be behind it... but no one has been able to confirm that rumor yet. Another theory is that a crime syndicate known as Team Rocket" may be behind it, although I have absolutely no idea how competent they are.
